Elaine Tuttle Hansens makeup entitled "Of his adore daungerous to me: Liberation, Subversion, and Domestic Violence in the Wife of Baths Prologue and Tale, she discusses the feminist and antifeminist opinions found among the Wife of Bath. She questions whether Chaucer intended the Wife to be saw at as a "monster or joke" (Hansen 273) or whether he seeks the reader to find 1 understanding among her anti-marriage and antifeminist rhetoric.
Feminism
Hansen first examines the wife as a feminist surrounded Part I of her composition She looks by the "strong,athletic frank women" as demonstrating honest female discourse who might maybe be a "direct spokeswoman for the perspicacious proto-feminism of Chaucer" (Hansen 273). Alisoun states within lines 441-442 that "sith a male namely moore reasonable/ than feminine is ye moste been suffrable." With this statement, she is working along with the misogynistic outlook that women are emotional meantime men are rational.
In many cases, her character epitomizes the misogynous description of women. For example she is a self-described "gold-digger," which supports the antifeminist theory that women are selfish and materialistic. The Wifes appreciation of her many marriages namely based aboard greediness and materialism, as she supports among this statement:
"Blessed be God that I have married five,
Of whiche I have picked out the beste,

She wanted these men neither as their adore nor as their companionship; she was only interested amid their money. She furthers explains this within the emulating statement,after among her prologue:
